Observation details
Update 09/13: I believe the wailing bird was the saw whet. I heard the wail and then very soon after the tooting began . I recall the bird wailed at one point when I whistled an imitation of a saw whet toot as well. One wailing at .02 into checklist . Possibly the same bird tooting for 3 or 4 minutes straight a couple minutes later. A second tooter joined in later . They were tooting from separate directions around me and from different distance in those directions . One was quite close and one was somewhat farther. Fairly common migratory owl and they’re moving now.
