Observation details
Very streamlined black and white kite with long forked tail. Spotted by John Pancake while birding with Bob Ake, Bob Epperson & Joan Mashburn just before 8:25 AM gliding northbound over D Pool at Back Bay. Bob Ake then called to alert me since he knew I was seawatching from the pier. At 8:30, I scoped the bird from the pier looking southwest with it roughly over the entrance road/entry gate. It drifted slowly towards the Little Island parking area over the strip of scrub between there and the bay, then once it hit the kayak launch area it rapidly sped northward out of view. A Virginia Beach nemesis, no longer! Photographed extensively as it moved north.
