Observation details
Continuing birds. Perched up in dead cottonwood to south of Cecilia and Mike’s place for a bit, counted twice got 133 and 137 so average to 135. Heard them almost immediately when I arrived, heard the whiny “weaaahh” call and then saw several flocks and groups flying up from the east and they swirled up into a fast moving tight ball of birds and moved out around over the valley. Eventually landed on top of the dead cottonwoods. From there they went down to the ground, walking around on the ground picking up things. Not sure what they were eating, maybe grass seeds or acorns from the nearby oaks. Then they moved in to the yard, and I got incredible looks as they fed. Heard a “wa-wa-wa-wa-wa” call and a chatter call as well. Dusky blue gray jays, much grayer when farther away and bluer when closer up. Long pointy bill, short tail, plump. Lighter throat patch. They make a lot of noise when they move.
