I'll see Clem's 4000, and really should up the ante another couple thousand, or more. More flights arrived from the south as Clem was leaving. 5000 is a compromise, as compared to previously counted rafts of tens of 1000's of NY Snow Geese. Large rafts were scattered SW for two miles, extending into Chittenden County territory. Many rafts were too compacted to allow estimating individual Scaup numbers (without a hi-res ice-cover satellite image from the weather service?). On my return at 15:30, I agree that at least 4000 scaup were still present per Bruce's estimate.
