Observation details
Not a true finch, but now classified in the tanager family. This is a male. Females in this population are very different from the brightly colored males being dull brown and streaked. They sometimes go under the name "Pelzeln's Finch." Two populations are widely separated. In the north females resemble males, only slightly duller. They may represent a different species.
