Observation details
With a break in the storm, I went wandering around on my street to look for the waxwings. I found all 11 of them right across the street! They were feeding on juniper berries and then perching on a bare fruit tree. Somewhat by accident I ended up right underneath them, but they did not seem to care one bit. When on the tree, i often saw them eating snow. Then they had to duck into the juniper and try not to get bombed by snow. A bunch of robins were feeding with them as well. I stood there watching them at close range for about 45 minutes as I waited for others to arrive after letting them know I “had them”. Pretty amazing morning. I tried to get some recordings, but there was a lot of talking as neighbors went by and I showed them the waxwings, and then Jon and Nancy showed up. I had extended looks at their chestnut under tail coverts, colorful faces, gray chests. They are noticeably bigger than the Cedars.
