Observation details
Pair, silently moving over the rainforest floor, hopping onto rocks and pausing there briefly, as they searched for bugs in leaf litter. Both similar size, say 25cm, browny bronze, black colouring in a scaly appearance. Pale underneath with dark (brownish) markings. Pale legs. Mobile phone photo but light was poor and camera on mobile is not very good. To identify as a mountain thrush, we looked at our Readers Digest Complete Book of Australian birds. Edition1, revised 1976,1977. Then in Field Guide to Birds of Australia (G Pizzey/F Knight) 8th Edition, page 528. Based on size of each one, likely Russet rather than Bassian.
