Observation details
A pair of large sized grebe was seen along with other dabbling ducks viz. Northern Shoveler, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Eurasian Wigeon etc. The birds were observed using binocular. The observed bird had characteristic long, slender neck and bill. The upper side along with crest were darker as compared to pale face. The birds were observed near pumping station of Hatnur dam. Banana and Cotton cultivation stood on the banks of the backwaters. This side of the backwaters is dominated by aquatic vegetation like Hydrilla verticillata, Ottelia alismoides, Ipomoea aquatica, Potamogeton natans, also Typha domingensis and Ipomoea carnea are providing good hide and shelter for the waterfowls and passerine birds. Unfortunately we could capture a single record shot of the grebe. On approach the birds flew eastwards.
