Observation details
A female feeding on rough waste ground 150m N of the Level crossing along the road to the WTW. A small, compact finch with a proportionally large head and small, chubby bill. Olive green-brown above and white below with black streaks on crown, mantle, back and flanks; dark wings with two pale wing bars and pale yellow-white supercilium extending down the sides of the neck with a small pale spot in the darker cheek. It spent a lot of the time low down in rank vegetation where it made short forays on the ground as well as flitting from stem to stem. A particularly notable feature was a pale yellow rump, not always obvious when the bird was on the ground, but very conspicuous when in flight.
