Observation details
At least four different individuals heard giving calls. Two vocalizing first and two hundred meters later another two. On the one I photographed, I noticed for the first time on this species two things: first, how long its legs were and second, supraloral with a tinge of yellow. Beige/light brown chest and vent, streaked upper parts. White edges of greater coverts and tertials. Rufous crown. Thin reddish line extends behind the eye increasing in width towards the end. Thin white eye ring apparent. Besides the pictures I added the recording of very high and underslurred “tsew” calls (e.g. N. Pieplow’s field guide to bird sounds of eastern N.A., bottom of page 427) but also a series of rapid Tsews. Two of these birds began to call after a trio of BHNU’s responded to my playback and got close.
