Sketched in the field, immediately after observing the bird well. I had no camera with me other than phone.
Observation details
Off the broad unpaved trail on south side of parking lot, about 30 yards from trailhead, on left side. A small thrasher with lightly streaked gray-brown upperparts, and boldly spotted (blackish triangular streaks) underparts with buffish background extending from breast to vent. The unstreaked throat contrasted white, bordered by a thin yet bold malar line. The auriculars were browner than the grayer head and nape. The eyes were pale yellow, with thin white arcs above and below. A white supercilium trailed behind the eye. The bill was thin, short, blackish with a paler base. It kept mostly to the ground, running, and flew short distances barely a few inches high. Saw it briefly eating red berry-like fruit. Did not vocalize.
