Observation details
Adult at the north end of the reservoir, though quite a distance from the pullout viewing areas. We first saw this bird in the water with its head tucked, but through the scope we could see that the eye, just barely visible beneath the back feathers, was significantly connected to the bill. We watched it for quite a while until it lifted its head and got good views of the distinctive, Trumpeter Swan bill, straight culmen, deep V in the forehead, extensively connected eye to the bill. In addition, the bird lack the small yellow dot often seen in the lores of Tundra Swans. We wondered if this was the same bird Jason Lakey had a couple weeks ago just a few miles south of here on the Owens River.
