Observation details

Continuing here since Dec 20th, 2022 when it was found by Rita Stima, although landfill staff said it may have been present for two weeks prior to that. Mixed with 3 Mallards. Seemed wary but did not flush. Please, please follow all rules set up by Rita and others. Park carefully and stay within the areas that landfill signs and orange cones indicate. This is the 2nd record for PA, although provenance is questionable. There is a tear on one portion of webbing on one foot, whatever that may mean. There is no firm evidence this bird was released or escaped. Additional notes by Ross Gallardy, et al: “Bird has full flight feathers, no bands, and appears to have nails on both back toes. Bird was wary, but still remained calm most of the time accompanying Mallards. At the moment, I think the bird is a 1st year (?) male. Rufous vent, small red knob beginning to develop on bill, and no white in face point towards a male. Only a small amount of white in the trialing edge of wing. Not sure if this little white could show in a 1st year bird or not.”
