Observation details
Continuing bird. The bird, an immature male, was often in the pines next to the parking lot. One tree in particular was full of neatly arranged holes, visible in one of the photographs below, many of them weeping with sap that glistened in the sun. (I see now that in the photo of the bird with his bill in a hole, dripping sap is visible.) But the bird ranged widely, sometimes to the trees near the entrance to the reservation, sometimes to the trees in back of the feeders, but more often to the deciduous trees behind the pines.
