Observation details
Saw a pied cormorant fly over the lake and head north with a falcon in hot pursuit. I thought hobby. I have no idea why the case as the cormorant was five times bigger. A minute or so later, the hobby returned to hunt insects. It caught several, appearing to skim them off the tops of trees and also on the wing and sat in upper branches to eat them. I took a lot of photos some of them very good. It perched several times in the gums just outside the main buildings. It also perched in the top of the willow at the western end of the dam being scolded by long-billed corellas. Then made a quick pass low across the dam.
