Media notes
Mixed flock of Bohemian Waxwings and Cedar Waxwings vocalizing in the tree top canopy. Not sure if both species are vocalizing. Not sure if this is considered a 'song' or a 'call'. Black-capped Chickadee and American Robin also figure prominently in the recording.
Observation details
Estimated count by scanning the entire flock and estimating a 50:50 mix. Then counted a group of 30 birds and extrapolated that grouping size to remainder of the flock to estimate approximately 120 total individuals in the mixed flock. Initially saw the flock of Cedar Waxwings fly into the top canopy of a large deciduous tree. While watching them, a secondary large mixed flock of CEDW and Bohemian Waxwings flew in to join them. This combined flock perched in primarily 4 trees (3 deciduous, 1 coniferous) in the immediate area, and they intermittently came to feed in a small stand of Juniper trees adjacent to their perching trees. The BOWA were slightly larger than the CEDW; the BOWA rich rufous undertail coverts were readily apparent and distinctive from the lemon yellow markings and white undertail coverts of the CEDW. Good looks at both species, and photos to be attached.
