Observation details
With green, round heads, I was all in for Greater Scaup..until reading "Greater and Lesser Scaup:Beyond Crown Shape" (Tony Leukering, Colorado Birds, Jan. 2011). Turns out head shape is not so diagnostic with actively foraging/diving scaups, as these were doing. Neither is green iridescence on the head. So to my untrained eye, and lack of better photo evidence, I'm back to calling these Greater/Lesser Scaups. One final note, One female and the male seemed to be a couple, while the other female hung out more with the pie billed grebe than with the other two scaups.
