Observation details
I've been trying to pay very close attention to these Black-capped Chickadees. At the very beginning of my walk, I heard and saw 2 BCCH. They responded to my screech owl whistle. I was able to observe them both and see the defining field marks. I walked about 200 yards and a group of chickadees came at me from the front. I believe that it was a distinctly different group from the first that I had seen 200 yards back on the trail. This second group is the one that I recorded. You can hear several BCCH in the recording and one Carolina. There were 3-4 BCCH's in this group. As I've mentioned before, the BCCH respond much more actively to the screech owl whistle than CACH. Later, at the end of the walk, on the opposite end of the park...(nearly a mile to the east) I had 1 more BCCH and verified it with Merlin. Unless the BCCH roam up and down the length of the park so much that I intersect with them several times during one walk, I'd guess that 6 is a conservative number. There are likely more than 6 at Friendship Park on any given day.
