Media notes
The cat-meows are given by Red-throated Alethe, which also gives a scold after playback at 1’04”. Turned out this pair had a nest ca. 5’ up ion a small sapling just above the trail. This is after the “green” and “red” trails separate and we’ve taken the red trail down. Just before coming out into a clearing, there’s big tree that leans over the trail and another straight on the left side. There is a little cup nest, thinly woven (you could see through it), of thin plant material in a forked twig horizontally. Background includes: Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird. Digitized from original recording on a Sony TCM-5000, using a Sennheiser ME62 & foam windscreen.
Observation details
A lifer! We watched two birds at a nest that was 5’ up in a small sapling; a small cup thinly woven of fine plant material in a forked twig, horizontally; this was early along red trail after green and red trails separate; there may have been driver ants around as there was a White-tailed Ant-Thrush with the alethes and they were coming down to the trail to feed; but we couldn’t see any ants.
