Observation details
1st cycle; photos. Same individual as found here ~2 months ago (see this eBird checklist for photos: https://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S33934844). Many features of this bird point toward Heuglin's Gull (ssp. taimyrensis) including the more robust build and rather heavy bill, as well as the pale formative back feathers with dark centers. Consultation with gull experts from Europe and Asia confirmed this suspicion. If Lesser Black-backed Gull is split and Heuglin's Gull becomes a distinct taxon in the eyes of the AOU, this would require review by the CBRC. As such, I thought it important to document it to the subspecies level here so the record could be easily found later.
