Observation details
Located in salt bush thickets on restricted dirt trail in front of Ranger Station. Heard chipping constantly at about 7:15, but unable to get eyes on it. We waited for it to come out, but moved on with the count after 10 min. Have 3 Merlin recordings which I have listened to many times by comparing to other recordings in the county and other parts of the country. Merlin sound ID is often inaccurate, (it ID’d a LASP, a CHSP, a DEJU, a LAGO, all of which I could not confirm), but with some familiarity with the Swamp Sparrow ID and song from birding in Rhode Island during Oct and Nov of the last 2 years, I am posting with confidence that if I’m wrong, I won’t be laughed at too much. The last reported sighting in this general area was 11/27/16. It was also reported at Cottonwood Creek 7 miles north of this area in October and November 2017. Recording tba by end of day.
