Observation details
Kent had it in his scope and I got great views as it sat on the ice then lifted up and flew a short distance: Herring Gull sized, dark back, it had the near adult bill, pink legs and large white trailing edge of wings; Found the day before at Republic Services Countywide Landfill by Kent Miller and before anyone knew about it Matt Kapler found it at this location! Shortly after I saw this bird it flew off with a large group of gulls and was seen later in the day at the same landfill which is 28 miles away. Also incredibly Jon Cefus photographed it at Lake Cable while it was heading to the landfill. Lake Cable is about half way between the two locations. *r this was a first state record life bird
