Observation details
Very rare, exceptionally late date; immature bird found by Maureen Seaberg at this location earlier in the day. Seen with MOB as it skulked in some dense brush, partially consumed a rat, and then gave some great views flying around and perching on rocks and various waterfront structures, including briefly right in front of us - at times harried by gulls. Eventually took off and flew far to the south towards the bridge but fortunately, eagle-eyed birders watching this bird from across the narrows in Brooklyn (!!!) were able to stay on it and relay its new position to us - perched on a crane near Buono beach, where it remained for a minute or so before flying back north towards the original location. Hopefully this rat killer does not succumb to rat poison, should it continue; or moves to a different location with safer food sources. Amazing! Life bird
