Observation details

Amazing looks at one that flushed up from the swampy water on the SE side of the development. Sat up on a dead branch and gave great views before flying off with loud squawking noises. Really cool-looking heron with finely variegated brown/black upperparts, finely barred black and brown neck, blue-gray cheek, black cap, front of neck is white with rufous streak edged with black, yellow skin around eye and lores. Big bill, yellow lower mandible black above and blackish legs.
