Observation details
Adult in winter plumage; carefully identified; photographed; viewed through scope at relatively close range - 150 feet; Head was gleaming white with bright red bill and black spot behind the eye, slightly below the plane of the eye; ; the matle was gray, about the color of a Ring-billed Gull; wing tips on folded wing black; underparts were white; legs and feet bright red; in flight, the upper surface of the wing had whiter primaries with a black trailing edge; from underneath, the undersurface of the primaries were very dark; tail was white with some black in the tip.
