Observation details
Previously reported. Unable to find it earlier today despite circling the pond several times. This time, it was at the north end of the island. Face and neck were pale gray-brown with a darker crown stripe from bill to hind-neck and eye line wider in front and thinner behind. Pale head and neck contrasted well with the notably darker body. Breast, flanks, scapulars, back, and uppertail coverts were all combination of brown/blackish and bright rufous. Scaps had more dark while flanks were 50/50. This pattern was finest on the breast. Large tertials were gray-brown. Bill was all banana-yellow with small black tip as in male Mallard. Legs orange. Wing pattern was not seen
