Observation details
Initially thought it was yellow-shafted but closer inspection is making me think otherwise. I noticed the red as it flew between trees which triggered the extra scrutiny. Features: gray face, gray/blank nape, reddish shafts, reddish wash on underwing, red undertail. According to this guide, the features on this bird line up with female red-shafted as opposed to an intergrade/hybrid bird. https://ebird.org/pnw/news/northern-flicker-red-shafted-yellow-shafted-intergrades-which-do-you-have/ There are a few more pics here on my iNaturalist observation though I think the ones I uploaded here are sufficient https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/145432681 Update 1/1/23: Got pics of the nape which show a smudgy marking seen in intergrade birds. Updated to red x yellow hybrid as such
