Observation details
Continuing bird located by Doug Willick. Wigeon with rufous neck and head. Buffy stripe down the forehead. There was a distinct line demarking the pale orangish wash on the breast and the uniform pale gray flanks. Uniform pale gray back and wings. The white spot on the side was visible periodically depending on the posture of the bird but can't be seen in the very poor photographs taken from 1,500 feet away. Large white patch on the flanks near the black tail. The bird was studied well in a Zeiss scope for approximately 20 minutes. At one point the bird moved in front of the grass along the bank which allowed a good study of the color of the plumage against a dark background.
