Observation details
NOTES: On Private Property. Returning/continuing individual. Present from approximately 10:05am to 10:30am. Bright yellow breast with yellow going up to throat, light gray head with darker eye mask, larger bill than CAKI or WEKI with large base (though not as long as TRKI bill), tail notched, but not super deeply notched. Bird was perched in ash tree and was observed foraging on nearby Pyracantha fruit; flying to bush and returning to tree to eat. It called twices - one time very short "dik" and a longer, sharper "ch-eek". In better light all features were observable (including tail notch, and size/shape of bill). After foraging for about 15 minutes the bird flew away to a distant tree on golf course, then was not seen/heard again (as of 29 Dec 2022), despite continued efforts by me walking nearly 6 miles around the neighborhood, repeatedly walking the De Anza Trail both along Coutry Club of Green Valley and south along De Anza Trail at Haven Golf Course. Bird has not returned to the same Pyracantha bush, despite the presence of numerous AMRO (25-85), CEWA (20-50) and other birds gobbling up that fruit. UPDATE 29 Dec 2022: I will keep regularly checking the area and will add any additional observations of the Couch's kingbird when/if I resight it. In addition to eBird checklists, I'll post any updates to the AZNM Listserve and Arizona Birds FB page.
