Observation details
At least two birds calling to each other from corners of different ponds. Eventually coming together and chasing each other and posing in plain sight. Clear (but kind of smudgy) greyish breast, olive flanks, russet wings, sharp facial markers, rufous crown stripes. In bulrushes/cattails in NE corner of pond 1 and SE corner of adjacent pond 2. Gave three types of calls: a high, short, buzzy "zeep" a slightly lower-pitched four-count of that call ("zeep-zeep-zeep-zeep"), and a clear, sweet but slightly masal soft-sounding "chip". Have poor quality recordings of the single zeep call.
