Observation details
**Casual Winter Visitor for Missouri** Found by Lisa Saffell today. Immediately upon my arrival I found them just past middle point of lake, maybe 250 yards out. While viewing them they got closer and closer, to where they were eventually within 50 yards of shore. Pair hung out together entire time I viewed them. My first observation in the St. Louis area of more than one individual. One bird definitely had a little more reddish wash to the neck than the other. So, possibly it is an adult transitioning to non-breeding plumage, but uncertain if it is not just a first-winter bird further along in transitioning plumage. Other bird appears to be a clear first-winter bird. At least 3 times they stood erect in water rubbing their necks/bills together.
