Observation details
Eden Landing is not open to the public. We were birding for the CBC and had a permit. The bird was observed on the southern edge of pond 4 1/2, a short ways north of the Alameda Creek Flood Control channel. Medium-sized Calidris in terms of body and leg length but with a small head and fairly short bill relative to body size. Overall gray upper parts and white underparts, yellow legs and dark bill with orange base. Tertial feathers long and loose (while there was very little wind, they occasionally lifted up slightly). All wing and back feathers had dark, diamond-shaped centers and white edges, giving a scaly appearance. Photos obtained.
