Observation details
I was positioned toward the NE end of Sunset Beach by the shore when I binned a Horned Grebe actively diving with a group of coots approximately here: 47.558011, -122.069174. Lacking a scope and because we had missed Horned Grebe up to this point, I took a number of photos of what I thought was just one grebe hunting in this area. Looking at my pics now, there is clearly a Horned Grebe present, but the attached photo here suggests a second grebe was in the immediate vicinity. Comparing its features and size to similar photos of a known diminutive-looking (female?) Red-necked Grebe documented here recently (https://ebird.org/checklist/S123514903), and comparing the same photo to the Horned Grebe on this checklist, I am including RNGR on this checklist. See photo of the Dec 5th Red-necked Grebe here: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/510444871 Compare to today's Horned Grebe: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/514236931 Attached photo of today's bird is quite dark (ISO setting was set too low) before I corrected for light and captured the Horned Grebe image moments later.
