Observation details
Originally identified as a dark morph red-tailed hawk. It was being chased by ravens and it sounded like a red-tailed hawk... but the pictures suggest a zone-tailed hawk, which was reported at the same time and in the same area by Alex Coffey, who saw the same bird from a location only 200-300 meters south of mine. Yellow around the beak, yellow legs, striking black on thee body and leading parts of the wings, white on the trailing parts of the wings, white tail. Barring is visible on the tail and in the trailing parts of the wings in only a few of the pictures because many were overexposed. Audio recording, althogh mediocre, is consistent with a zone-tailed hawk. Seen while being mobbed by common ravens.
