Observation details
Incredible looks at one, thought it might be a NUFL so I played the call and it responded pretty vigorously with the diagnostic "wheep!" call as well as a triple-note "pi-pi-dit!" call. Able to view and study all the field marks as it would sit still for minutes at a time within the canopy of the small brushy trees. Bushy crest, brownish with browner face than ATFL. Regular sized bill not as big as BCFL. Lemon yellow belly & vent, bright ORANGE mouth color a weird field mark and I thought would be hard to use, but this bird opened its mouth silently multiple times showing this field mark. A few of the photos show well. Noted on the wing pattern rufous-edged primaries blending into cinnamon/orange-edged secondaries, not the sharp contrast between rufous primaries/white secondaries as in ATFL. Tail shows rufous inner webs and brown outer webs with rufous going all the way to the tail tip.
