Observation details
Lifer! 2 family groups. First group of 6 we had at the big fig tree - I told Alán I like this place! and then within 2 minutes we spotted the jays moving back behind some foliage up the hill. Classic jay calls. Apparently they are very predatory to anything they can catch, especially nestlings and eggs, so other birds tend to avoid them (other than the caciques who seemed to be traveling with them). Big black jays with bright blue mantle, wings, and tail. Didn't really notice this in the field but they have bushy eyebrows. Also saw 2 juveniles with the first family group, one with just the forward crest but the other full juvenile plumage with rakish forward-curling crest and the pale bill. You can actually see this juvenile in the background of the video. When we got back to the car had another group of 5.
