Observation details
Adult California Gull with Ring-billed Gull masses in E. 9th St. marina, on closest pier to west of parking lot for entire obs period. Spent majority of time sleeping with head tucked, but spent a few minutes preening and shuffling around. Very small/petite California (potentially the same individual seen here on 12/22/2020?), at times actually appearing smaller than some of the bigger Ring-billeds in direct comparison. Relevant ID features all noted - mantle 1-2 shades darker than adjacent ringers, dark irides, deep red orbital, coarse nape smudging. Legs greenish-yellow with slightly thicker tarsi than Ring-billed Gull, slender bill with classic black + red marks towards tip, large white primary spots, generally long-winged structure. Lots of photos and video.
