Observation details
Continuing outstanding rarity found by John Parmeter. Primarily in SE corner of lake 13 with mud and foam but only came to the area a few times during entire observation. We heard the very loud rattle (louder than LALO) and downward sloping distinct “tcheuw” many times but often difficult to detect the bird’s location or see it when calling. I believe it was hiding in the rocks of the dam much of this time. Eventually seen in flight with contrasting white and dark wings twice—finally really good looks around 10:50 flying in SE corner with HOLAs and then it landed in the rocks nearby and we were able to get great scope views of it walking at the base of the rocks. We then walked down the road and observed and photographed it well before it flew off towards the obvious depression in the dry lake bed far to the south. Audio recording obtained as well as many photos.
