Observation details
We saw many of these birds both just off shore and in prion caves where they nest. NB several experts have communicated with me concerning whether Fulmar Prions breed in the Antipodes. They clearly have been seen in the region but it is possible that the breeding prions are Fairy Prions or perhaps an intermediate between Fairy and Fulmar. The upshot is that, although experts on my trip there identified them as Fulmar Prions, there is some uncertainty about their identification. This note was added in 2025 but the questions were first brought to my attention in 2018 after I posted recordings on Xeno Canto. Awaiting further data on the breeding populations on the Antipodes!!
