Observation details
A male duck that was generally very similar in overall colour/pattern to the nearby Ring-necked Ducks and Lesser Scaup. This duck was much whiter on its flanks than the other sp. and and a had a dark black back, not grey. The bird had bright yellow eyes on a blackish head and had a long blackish tuft emanating from it's nape and falling down towards its back. The bird had a blue bill with a black tip. Seen well and at length as the bird alternating fed by diving and swam on the surface with the large group of diving ducks. Watched using a spotting scope from approx. 150 - 170 m distance. Familiar with this species from seeing it many times over years. Photo attached.
