Observation details
Continuing bird, I think a female, found yesterday evening by Michael Perrone. Around 4:15pm it flew into the top of a large oak at the end of Genero Pl, calling loudly. It then moved about the surrounding area, first in a fir and then a redwood, before flying north to a cluster of live oaks at the end of Florinda Ln. It was last heard calling from these oaks around 4:45pm as it got dark. This is at (38.5590266, -121.7124066). Diagnostic calls were a loud, “pit-tuck,” or “pit-to-tuck,” often two or three parted, sometimes a longer chuckle. It also gave a soft, WEBL-like whistle a few times that I had never heard from a SUTA before. Fairly large, yellow-green tanager brightest around the vent, duskier above and on the head. Typical hefty bill, olive-green wings lacking any wingbars. Thanks to Bart who came back and helped me locate the bird, and Michael who found it yesterday and joined us as we watched the bird tonight. Photos and audio tba.
