Observation details
Heard an odd call (near right front steps) that sounded catbird-ish that I didn’t recognize. Turned on Merlin audio and didn’t get an ID (audio attached). Eventually I got some looks at a skulking wren in the grass-weeds at about a 10 ft distance. There weren’t any strong field marks, the bottom beak seemed yellowish and some barring on cheek. It didn’t seem dark enough or small enough for Winter Wren or have any other coloration or fields marks ala Marsh or Carolina or other more rare wrens. Sedge is also somewhat plain but that didn’t seem right, nor Winter Wren which seems smaller, darker and shorter tail. Obviously not terribly confident on this ID and could move to wren sp. hope someone can get a picture (I didn’t have a camera with me). I should also add that a cat walked out of the area the bird was seen in and the call in the audio seems to be directed at the cat (once the cat left the wren stopped calling).
