Observation details
Immature type large gull on steps by Watershed with mixed age HGs. First picked out by more robust build and white head with 'eye mask', darker heavier bill and pale tipped tertials and YLG was first thought. Slightly more robust and heavier body and bill compared to 1st-w,HGs. White based around head, throat , sides of neck and belly with less streaking Dark, white-tipped tertials Darker greater coverts.. Mantle pattern not immediately typical YLG type ( Merlin photo ID app switches between YLG and LBBG, but too big-bodied, big headed and big -billed for LBBG. Possibly a hybrid, but after consultation with fellow Avon and Suffolk bird bloggers ( R.Andrews, B. Lancastle, A. Carlilse and Craig Shaw all thought YLG) and examination of photos on internet, I am logging this as a 95% YLG type. Probably a 2cy bird in early stage moult, with retained 1st cycle feathers on manrtle and coverts .
