Eared Grebe feeding on Pipefish.
Observation details
Continuing Eared Grebe found on 18 Feb by Shai Mitra and Patricia Lindsay. Seen feeding fairly close to shore within the cove at the far west end of Oak Beach. The bird was diving beside some white mooring buoys, perhaps working the rope line for small prey items. We watched it gulp down a couple of pipefish (attached photo). Slimmer than Horned Grebe with thin neck and bill with peaked forecrown. Dark crown feathers dipping below through auriculars with dusky neck. Bill pointier and slimmer than Horned Grebe. Photos attached.
