Observation details
Female, no white wing bar in wing like the male, which looks really different, being mostly black. She has a medium brownish head with a plain face, narrow black and white barring below. We first spotted in huge, partly a snag, knob cone pine tree along Siskiyou lake trail heading west. A very distinctive tree along the trail and lake edge. Acturally, there are two trees near each other that are similar. They have cavities drilled out in some of the aged wood. She was shy and took off fairly fast after we took a few pix.
