Observation details
First county record! I still can not belive we found this bird! @(38.612564,-121.069515), moving between both side of the creek on the right side of the bridge. I first heard this bird as we were walking down the trail towards the back marsh, and thought it sounded suspicious for WIWR. I tried a bit of playback, but it didn't come in and stopped calling. On our way back from the far marsh, this bird popped out into the open while calling, I looked over and freaked out, yelling "Winter Wren". We than had great looks, and got some good photos and audio. Small, dark, short tailed wren much paler in the front overall than a PAWR. This bird has some good sized white speckles on the scapulars which also seem good for WIWR. This bird gave several different calls, but they all sounded different from PAWR. The most given call was the typical double chimp call that sounds like a SOSP. It also gave some higher pitched calls. Such a great bird!
