Media notes
at least 8 (and possibly 9 or 10) birds were foraging in Ponderosa Pines and vocalized as they flew off; call type confirmed by Matt Young
Observation details
spectrogram below shows lightning bolt note shape of Type 2-Ponderosa Pine ("kinked" version) - confirmed by Matt Young at Cornell we hadn't encountered RECRs for years but on this day had a hankering to search for them in the park's conifers and incredibly almost immediately found an small unseen flock in the closest Ponderosa Pines by where we happened to park (northwest corner of golf course parking lot) and as they chowed down we heard little pieces of cone debris raining from above until the wind picked up and drowned out the sound with the noise of rustling leaves they seemed to only vocalize when they'd fly to a new area, and after flying off and not being detected for quite awhile, they returned to the same trees they'd foraged on earlier
