Ring-billed Gull behind. Long distance digiscoped photo
Observation details
Gull slightly smaller than Ring-billed. Larger than Bonaparte’s. Appeared to be an adult in non-breeding plumage. Darker uppers, fairly long dark bill with very slight downward curve at the tip. Some dark streaking / smudging on back of head. Black wing tips showing tiny white spots at the ends. Observed by scope for several minutes as it sat on the water. Never saw it fly. Ruled out Franklin’s Gull because of less prominent black hood, longer bill, tiny white spots on tips of primaries, and narrower eye arcs. Long distance digiscoped photo. Observed it associating with about 150 Ring-billed Gulls under good viewing conditions- calm and overcast but good light
