Observation details
These were some of the the biggest Chungus bird we’ve seen, (not as large as the vagrant Harris’ sparrows we seen in the state). The first two giant pairs were not fluffing up their feathers (they were positioned in the sun) nor were they weren’t alarmed, just very hefty and satisfying to look. Indeed they look like the hardy sparrows that could face the harsh climate of the tundra. They even shared their sweet song, “there is no gold”, which was very delightful. Can’t imagine why the miners of old though it was bleak and ominous song.
