Observation details
Sitting on the shore, on the eastern side of the spit somewhat associated with the large goose flock (35.3503987, -103.4507223). Young bird, I’d guess 2nd year though I’m not sure, with overall “dirty” white plumage. The individual allowed for me to get extremely close, making the face features easily discernible. Long black triangular bill with obvious facial skin connecting to the eye, v-sharp tapering at the top of the bill, and lacking any yellow on the bill or shape below the bill. The bird sat on the shore the entire time I was there and didn’t seem to care amount my presence. I’m checking to make sure it was healthy, I walked up to 5-6ft away from it before it hissed at me. Other than this behavior I don’t see any way this isn’t a wild bird. Pics coming.
